Our Values and Vision
At Equality Academy we aim for consistency, congruence, and communication of our core values:
Equality
At Equality Academy, we take equality so seriously we made it our first name. Our “take” on equality goes far beyond anything you will read in legislation or policy. It is a core commitment to see past appearances of difference, through deeper dynamics of difference and beyond to the fundamental oneness of all life. It is this “larger” ethical container which informs our perspective upon business and its relationship to its people, its customers and the society and time in which is exists. At the heart of our business is a relationship of equality between the two Directors, which honours, and seeks to bring out and blend, the richness of their diversity via the medium of shared values. This idea of equality in our diversity extends to our team of consultants. It is this distinctive feature of our approach which is the key to our success, and which we seek to reflect congruently – and share – through our work with our clients.
Ethics
At Equality Academy, we work from our own ethical basis, to live our values in everything we do; and we seek to help individuals, teams and organisations do the same. We recognise our professional ethical position as aspirational – it is a “work in progress” – not a rod with which to beat ourselves or others! This compassionate approach to ethics enables us to ask not “How can we be right?” but “How can we be helpful?” An essential part of our ethical approach is to teach, train, coach and challenge with an attitude of equality and connection: we seek to walk alongside our clients as honest, open, skilled partners, who care about your learning and development and the unique contribution it can make to your business success.
Excellence
We see ourselves as being on a continuing professional learning journey, rather than having already “arrived” somewhere. We aspire to be the best at what we do. To that end
- we offer you the best of our own expertise, without over-stating our abilities;
- we engage specialist consultants and partner businesses with distinctive and complementary skills;
- we make use of the latest thinking and research in our fields of expertise;
- we reflect deeply upon all the feedback and learning we gain from our work with our clients and
- we work with our supervisors to further our own development.
In short, we seek to walk our talk – and to walk our best.
Our vision involves businesses, and a society, in which:
- Organisations take a lead in an ethical, responsible, approach to business that respects the needs of all life;
- Business acknowledges the connection between the personal and political, the local and global, and between self-development and an awareness of our shared cultural and environmental ecology.
- Organisations take a global perspective that encourages thinking and working effectively cross-culturally, cross-organisationally and internationally
- The workplace enables people to fulfil their potential by contributing creatively to the success of their organisations in the context of clear communication, encouragement and mutual respect.
- Learning integrates all forms of knowing – intellectual, emotional, physical, social and transpersonal; and takes into account people’s diverse learning styles.
- Leadership is explicit about visions, values, ethics and processes; delegates power and authority appropriately; values the people which comprise the organisation; respects and welcomes diversity; and thereby achieves increased commitment, engagement and performance.
- Strategic processes place important emphasis, among other things, upon bringing out the best in people, supporting leaders to be champions of development and change, and upholding equality, diversity and inclusion.
- An emphasis upon personal development increases confidence, the ability to make fair and effective choices and decisions and is designed to encourage people to appreciate the diverse views, feelings and values of others.
