Disability Equality
This training is provided by our specialist access, inclusion and disability equality consultant Sarah Playforth
Its aim is: to develop participants’ knowledge of disability, highlight the barriers faced by a range of disabled customers & staff and share good practice in removing these barriers and promoting access & inclusion.
Participants on this course will be able to:
- demonstrate their understanding of the different ways in which discrimination against disabled people can operate in society, particularly in relation to access to their organisation’s services and employment;
- distinguish between different approaches to understanding disability and identify ways in which using particular approaches can be fairer and more effective;
- identify key barriers within society, and within their organisation, that may prevent disabled people participating on an equal basis with non-disabled people;
- ascertain how to remove a range of barriers;
- understand key aspects of the Equality Act 2010, and articulate how they impact upon their work and their organisation;
- review their own practices when meeting and working with disabled people, and identify particular issues for disabled people within their area of work.
