Best practice examples
These are some of the best cases of good practice which we and our clients are happy to share. If you would like any further information or support in implementing these ideas in your own business please contact us directly. See the example of Bath & North-East Somerset Council below.
To coincide with International Women’s Day this year we have written an abridged version of our Gender Equality - A Good Practice Guide. Please download your own copy.
Gender Equality – A Good Practice Guide
Equality Monitoring Form: We have compiled a short equality monitoring form that is Equality Act 2010 compliant (i.e. it covers the protected characteristics). It is a sample which you can use to cut and paste, adjust, to meet the needs of your own company. Note: that the gender identity question should only be asked if those you’re asking really understand (e.g. through training) what it is you’re asking!

nb. We will shortly be posting a much more comprehensive form that will be suitable for collecting more detailed customer/service user information.
Lesbian Gay & Bi-sexual Positive Practice Checklist: Research suggests that something in the region of 10% of the population may be Lesbian, Gay or Bisexual (LGB). How can you ensure that your organisation gains from the talent and custom of this tenth of the population, and does not support discrimination against them?

PSED: The EHRC have published lengthy guidance on the new Public Sector Equality Duty, here we have produced a précis of that guidance (using the EHRC text) suitable for use with those managers who would need to be aware of the implications of the Duty. In late March the government have decided to review the specific duties, the précis now indicates those areas under review and out for consultation. This review has concluded and this document will be revised shortly nb. this can still represent best practice for any organisation/company.

Equality Analysis (EIA) Template: In line with the Public Sector Equality Duty we are offering a simple template which you can adapt to carry out your own equality analysis – previously called Equality Impact Assessments. This version updated December 2011.

Belief: In the Equality Act 2010 one of the protected characteristics is religion and belief, whilst religion has its normal meaning, belief is more open to interpretation, in this article we explain simply what belief means in terms of the criteria recent tribunals have applied to it, we also include a case study.
One of our current clients are Bath and North-East Somerset Council (B&NES). As part of our management training we display a number of case study boards highlighting where action has been taken as a consequence of doing Equality Impact Assessments, see some examples here
